Misleading Marketing for ‘Plan B’
Women everywhere should know the whole truth about the new Plan B drug, Levonorgestrel. The following is a quote from the FRC:
Dr. Stanford told a Utah newspaper that instead of preventing pregnancy 89% of the time, it is “effective only 72% of the time, and even that number is optimistic.” Furthermore, the claim that greater access to “emergency contraception” will reduce abortion is also false. Studies show that in Scotland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and China greater access to Plan B has reduced neither abortion rates nor STD rates. [link]
Comair Crash Kills 49, 1 Survivor
In what’s likely the biggest tragedy in our state’s history, it’s now being reported that the Delta Comair flight that crashed in Lexington, Kentucky this morning, took off from the wrong runway—the short runway.
Our prayers go out to the families involved.
Hezbollah vs. Isreal

Forgive me for not posting about what very well may be the early stages of the Armageddon. As you can tell from the sweet, old lady above, the Lebanese are a peace-loving people who want nothing more than to live a life pleasing to Allah. I was just looking through CNN’s timeline with maps of the conflict when I noticed this remarkable image.
It’s good to get the facts of the case out there because Mike Wallace is going to get the President of Iran in the interview chair tonight and I’m sure the biggest supporter of Hezbollah will come off looking like a rather decent fellow after that. Unlike Wallace (and Dan Rather’s interview with Saddam Hussein before him) a real journalist would pose this question: “Why is it so important to your nation to see Isreal destroyed?”
Update: And we have crazy machete-weilding ladies here in the U.S. too! [via WuzzaDem]
When It Makes Sense to Buy Organic
According to Joy Bauer these are the foods where it makes the most sense to buy organic.
- Apples
- Cherries
- Grapes, imported (Chili)
- Nectarines
- Peaches
- Pears
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Bell peppers
- Celery
- Potatoes
- Spinach
Worth considering:
- Milk
- Beef
- Poultry
Which means pretty much everything else is “fine” to buy standard products, but we should still purchase produce in-season, trim and wash what we eat. You can find more information in this article.
Terrorists Foiled by Brits
This just in… British authorities have apparently foiled a major terrorist plot to destroy up to 10 commericial flights. Some suggest Al Qaeda.
Team Hoyt Video
Overcoming obstacles is part of the human spirit. Some have it in greater quantities than others. Some, like these people.
Jelly Belly Giveaway
Question: When is it a good thing to be fat?

Imagining the 10 Dimensions
If
a) You are are far smart than I, or
b) You really would love a ginormous headache,
then you should watch the above demonstration. If after finishing the demo you then purchase the book, then you’re not the kind of person who should be reading this blog. (Just kidding, I love you all.)
Hizbollah Means Business
How funny is this? For years, groups like Hizbollah have been inventing new methods of terrorism. Now, in the face of Isreal’s response, their chief, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, says “You wanted open war. We are going to open war.”
Isn’t that better? I’d choose open war to sneaky hiding and vicious attacks on civilians any day. These crazy Muslim-extremists crack me up.
Down Syndrome Research Advance

In our country today, when parents learn that their unborn child has Down Syndrome, 80% choose to abort that baby. Babies like little Emily above aren’t given even a chance to live.
Now scientists have isolated the gene that causes this syndrome. This is wonderful progress! Sen. Sam Brownback wants to help parents in that situation through his Prenatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act (S. 609). Sen. Ted Kennedy has agreed to co-sponsor the bill that would:
“…enlist the Department of Health and Human Services in making sure that parents know the many life-affirming options that are opening up for inclusion of Down Syndrome people in American life.” [link]

History’s 100 Most Infuential People
I don’t know how a list like this can be made. I mean, how is he measuring influence? Who is Michael Hart anyway? Where’s the scoreboard?!? All I know is, if the Son of God comes in 3rd, somethings wrong with your: Religious Affiliation of History’s 100 Most Influential People.
And truthfully, isn’t 98th a bit low for Homer? I thought everyone loved The Simpsons?!?
9/11 Light Memorial
It looks unreal, doesn’t it? At first glance I thought it was an ad for some new video game that touts enhanced graphics. But it’s actually a test run of the light memorial for the 9/11 World Trade Center. Pretty freakin’ cool.
Bigger Bras Are Better
“TAMPA, Fla. A 44-year-old woman escaped serious injury from a gunshot Sunday thanks to her seat belt and a thick bra strap, authorities said.”
That really is happy news.
Scooter Revolution
Nothing like market-forces to bring back an oldie but goodie. High gas prices have some consumers thinking 2 wheels instead of 4. And the ultra cash concious head straight for the the Scooter. Vespa is the classic name in this niche. But they aren’t cheap! We’re talking $3k for starters. As expected, prices are all over the board and the manufacturers are mostly unknowns.
Be warned, each state has different laws as to what needs to be registered at the DMV. So some manufactures purposefully create their scooters to be under the 50cc mark just so you don’t have to register them. On the flip side, it’s rare for any of these scooters to get up to 30mph. Even still, at 70+ miles per gallon, the public is now taking interest. And don’t forget about Mopeds!
Here’s the one I want. My wife won’t let me get a motorcycle, maybe she’ll let me get one of these?
Nashville Tops ‘Smart’ List of Cities
Money magazine has their Best Places to Live list, where Moorstown, New Jersey tops the list. Forbes does a yearly Best Places for Business where the reigning champ is Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Now Kiplinger’s, a personal finance magazine, has their 50 Smart Places to Live, with Nashville, Tennessee taking home the top prize. Each publisher uses differently weighted criteria to produce their rankings so it’s tough to compare one list to another. But it’s fairly safe to say, that if your city (*cough* *Louisville* *cough*) doesn’t appear on any of the lists, it might be a good idea to consider a move. I’m just sayin’.
