Air Support

Didn’t see this until today but we’ve got soldiers in Iraq asking for our prayer support. These are the guys that delivered the voting machines Iraqis used yesterday to make history. You gotta believe that God had a hand in making the elections as free of violence as it was. We all need to support our troops in as many ways as possible.

10-4 Good Buddy

Now here’s a great idea. Let the people out in the field, in this case truckers, help identify potential terrorists. If this works, the CB radio might actually become useful!

Evolution IS a Theory

Textbook sticker that says evolution is a theory, not a fact.

Just yesterday I spoke of activist judges and today we have another example. Clarence Cooper, U.S. District Judge, has ordered that the stickers approved by the school board have to be removed. His muddled response reads:

“By denigrating evolution, the school board appears to be endorsing the well-known prevailing alternative theory, creationism or variations thereof, even though the sticker does not specifically reference any alternative theories.”

Denigrating? It’s merely stating the truth, evolution is a theory. Look! Even Merriam-Webster’s dictionary uses evolution as an example when defining the word “theory”:

2 : a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain natural phenomena <a theory of organic evolution>

So another liberal judge stomps all over our civil liberties, overriding the choices of the people.

Speaking of the ACLU (the group that is claims to fight for our freedoms), they’ve actually come out in favor of the verdict, thus showing their true colors. Shameful.

Is God Good?

Prosthesis has an interesting post on the whole, “Where was God during the tsunami?” ordeal. It’s a fairly complex topic being that God is, well, so entirely above us. I think part of the battle is understanding that it is God who defines what is “good” and what is “evil” and our definitions don’t always jive.

I think it’s safe to say, humans as a general rule, think we’re better than we really are.

Odds: How Will You Die?

Our good friends over at AOL certainly have a knack for headlines, no? Who wouldn’t want to read The Odds of Dying? But a soothsayer Mr. Britt is not, he merely cites some census info. Since we all know we’re going to go someday, what’s the appropriate response?

A) Eat, drink for tomorrow we die.
B) Be good and cross our fingers.
C) Investigate all the options and make an informed choice with a portion of faith.

Too many of us choose “A” and not enough “C”. Which kind of person are you?

Islam, Religion of Peace?

Even in this, the information age, there’s a great deal that the average American knows nothing about. One thing that has been hidden from us the persistent violence directed at Christians across the globe, primarily by people in the name of Islam. Here’s just one real-world example. The Muslim National Islamic Front government in Sudan has sanctioned slavery of all non-Islams. Read about how Joseph was crucified and left for dead, only to escape and tell this horrific tale.

Why Did God Allow the Tsunamis?

It’s a very reasonable question. I’m sure we all have thought about it at one point or another. No one knows for sure, but Ralph Dettwiler has a very inciteful viewpoint posted here.

Liberalism as Religion

Here’s some brain Bazooka. Many liberals treat their politics as their religion. To many, very little is as important. Sometimes family? I doubt friends, because true friendship doesn’t “rule out” people on the basis of their political beliefs. Certainly not faith. It’s becoming more and more clear that many democrats bow to the alter of liberalism because its primary plank is “do whatever you want.”

Orson Scott Card thinks similarly in Moral Stupidity. [via baldilocks]

Free Speech Isn’t

The liberals in this country clammor all agog about free speech, unless of course, you’re reading something out of the Bible. In what should incite a riot if it were heard, the city of Philadelphia (ironically the city of brotherly love) is going to prosecute Christian protesters under the mis-labeled hate crime laws.

So now the nature of the protest is the issue and free speech is stiffled. The politburo is back.

Note: Predictably, the primary MSM outlets like CNN, MSNBC and the rest don’t seem to be covering this story… hmmm.

Quake/Tsunami in ’04

The death toll from this week’s disaster is over 60,000. Visit Prestopundit for the up-close-and-personal video. I just keep thinking about the words of Jesus.

Freud, C.S. Lewis Debate

You can’t prove that God exists. But then, you can’t prove that He doesn’t. What if Sigmund Freud debated C.S. Lewis on this topic? It didn’t happen but the simulation should be interesting as both were incredibly smart fellows. For those interested, PBS is going to air the show in the early fall.

‘Under God’ Stands… For Now

The US Supreme Court has decided not to address the issue of whether or not “under God” should be allowed to remain in our pledge of alligiance. All they’ve done at this point is postpone that decision by dismissing this case. Some expect the ACLU to pursue a ban, even while they claim to champion freedom of religion.

I don’t see what the problem is. They aren’t saying “under Yahweh” or “under Allah”. “God” is general enough that the speaker can be directing his or her thoughts to the diety of their choice. It seems to me that there are many who want to remove all aspects of religion from our society. As to why these groups would want to do this… we can all speculate.

Dating and Religion

A recent Match.com poll asked whether religion is a dating dealbreaker. For the most part, people don’t seem to think differing views on this topic mattered much; over 73% in fact. But what the numbers don’t show is whether faith was considered an important factor in that person’s life. For those that religion was only slightly important, of course they’d say, “Sure, I have no problems with it.” But if you greatly value your faith, making a lifelong contract with someone who’s views don’t “match” up with your own, is only asking for trouble.

Darwinism Under the Microscope

Many people hold evolution as fact. Why? Because most textbooks portray it as such. But there is gaining momentum to teach it for what it is… a theory. Not too long ago, schools in Georgia were allowed to teach the theory of Creationism along side of Darwinism. This supports a basic tenet of science—posit and test hypotheses. Of course, the anti-religious ACLU is spending millions on lawyers across the country to fight this practice, all in the name of protecting our civil liberties.

But shouldn’t it be up to the students to hear the evidence of both theories and make their own judgements? Sounds reasonable to this guy.

What’s the Story with Mohammed?

I must admit, I don’t know much about Mohammed other than he never claimed to be God, merely a prophet. Anyway, Steve Aquila does a quick bio of Mohammed that I think people will find informative.
