Zune Logo Redux

Microsoft has a product called Zune. This product, of course, has a logo. What I’m unsure about is why they thought the logo’s bug made any sense. As a designer, it seems fairly straight-forward (at least to me) that they were trying to create a 3D version of a “Z” but I think the one they came up with is overly complex.
So I tweaked it. What do you think?

I think the logo is definately going for the Z, but I believe the logo is more about connected community than anything. And if that’s the case, then I prefer the Official logo.
I’m just not sure if most people will even see the “Z” in the original one.
Most people don’t see the hidden arrow in the FedEx logo either, but that’s part of what makes it such a powerful logo.
No. Nothing against you…but I love the original. I think the overlap with the use of the same line is the best part about it. What you’ve done takes away, what are in my opinion, the best elements.
So those lines say the whole thing is merely wireframing? If so, so of the rounding isn’t accurate.
Ahh well, no matter. Zune has soon be extinct.

Your’s more stylish, and damn, that “hidden sense” thing would never worked anyway – too high-level to be percepted at a first glance. ;)
I’ve done a mod on our site and use it for our logo. Zune both ways.

I’m clueless about html code. Here’s the URL, you may have to copy and paste to your browser address bar. Sorry for the mixup.
Ed, you can email it to me if you like?
The entire Zune logo is made of interconnected Z’s. Recognize: A for Apple, Z is as far from Apple as you can get, aren’t MS ingenius? Okay, stretch, but that is what they were going for.
Rather complex indeed. Thanks for this information
Also, “the logo actually spells out the word “Zune”, found it on this post:

Yeah, that makes sense and I applaud their desire to add more stuff to it… no wait, I don’t. hehe I think the best logos are iconic.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they modified it down the road.
Guys, I’m very impressed, we as designers have to know about geometry and some other mystical shapes, the Zune logotype is based on the Flower of Life (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower_of_Life) it’s an very old symbol from ancient cultures.
I designed the flower of life and the zune logo, you can download the image here: http://manuelrocha.info/descargas/zune-logo.jpg
If it was just a 3d representation of the letter Z (Which, sure, I’ll give you that), then what’s the vertical stick in the centre for? If it was made to spell out the word ZUNE as in that other article, then what are the triangles, to either side of the “U” in the image showing the U, for? Personally I prefer my interpretation; Zune’s logo is proof that Microsoft doesn’t know how to draw a cube. I think they should have went with the plain 3D Z.
I thought that this is an annoying logo when I saw it first time.
