Today’s Hot Video Games

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted on video games but there are a couple of hot titles being released that deserve some attention. What am I playing you ask? I running through Neverwinter Nights 2 as a monk (I’ve never been a monk) just to see how much damage I can inflict with my bare hands. Good times.

Bioshock

But back to today’s games. The big news is Bioshock. This game is getting insane reviews, as well it should given its heritage. But I’ll be the first to say I’m disappointed that the developers didn’t continue the System Shock theme. Those games were superior.

This game, while very attractive, seems to have gone the way of Half Life but with more stylized, rather than realistic, graphics. Of course, this won’t stop me from buying the game but I’ll wait until some of the bugs have been squashed and that first big price drop.

Crysis

It seems like we’ve been waiting for Crysis for years! Ever since Far Cry, the good folks from Crytek (Yeah, those Germans aren’t too big on marketing are they?) have been busy working on Crysis.

The praise has been so loud that EA seems to have gobbled them up. While the graphics are incredible, it’s the physics engine that’s got me all hot and bothered. Make sure you watch the trailers on Gamespot. Is this the game that finally lives up to the lofty goal of “destructible environments”? Due to ship on November 16 in plenty of time for the Holidays.

Prototype

Another game to be on the lookout for is Prototype. That’s right, they’ve actually named a game Prototype. Or, at least I think they have. Sounds quite promising.

Parabellum

Lastly, in the Counter Strike mode comes Parabellum. Set in the future with names like “The Syndicate” and online gameplay? Are you kidding me?!? Sounds stellar! We’ll see if Acony Games can deliver on the promise.

  • Let me tell you, Bioshock is insanely awesome. It’s really a lot of fun, and is quite different from anything that I’ve played in recent years. I’ve got my copy for the 360, which is bugme free and in 61 inches of HD goodness. Play it in the dark… you’re guaranteed to poop your pants a few times!

  • I’m seriously looking forward to it!
