Oprah is a fluffy, pop psychologist with an airy fairy spirituality and I don’t like her odes to herself. You know she actually sells DVDs including her lavish 50th Bday party? Her fans can pay to see a party that they weren’t invited to!

All that said, you’re absolutely right. She has used her gifts and wealth to really help.

I agree. I was leery of the whole deal when I first learned of it, but, much to my surprise, the charity expressed by Oprah truly appeared to be genuine and heartfelt. The impact will be long lasting. She is helping to teach these girls to “fish” and not expect their “fish” to be handed to them. Good on her for that.

The only thing that struck me as odd in the whole special was Oprah’s reference to hear early years in Kosciusko, MS as being similar to the destitute lives that these girls are living in Soweto, etc. I find it hard to believe. But maybe I’m wrong.

Nevertheless, what a great way to contribute to the health of a people and a nation for years to come.
