Terri Dies. What Have We Learned?

Terri SchiavoToday Terri Schiavo passed on. There has been an incredible amount of discussion on this and related matters for the past several months; which is a very good thing. I’ll just briefly list what I’ll be taking away from this experience.

  1. Whether to live or die is a decision that should be left up to the individual; not the spouse, not the parent and certainly not the state. This penultimate decision should be in writing and revisited from time to time.
  2. Michael Schiavo is not a good person. Any reasonable person should be able to view the evidence and come to this conclusion.
  3. The judicial third of our government has purposefully ignored the checks and balances built into our system of governing by the Founding Fathers. Correcting their power grab should be of prime importance to every freedom loving citizen.
  4. This life is not all that there is. Something must come next. We should all do everything we can to investigate and decide what makes the most sense.

  • 1. That’s how it’s done in most of the world. The tricky part is when a person can no longer make decisions.

    2. “Here is my opinion and if you dont agree with it then you are not reasonable.” I am rolling my eyes at you.

    3. HAHAHAHA [Editor: 4 "Ha" is enough, more than that is just plain silly.] now I’m laughing at you. Please review the role of the Judicial branch of the government and determine if “judical activism” has any meaning at all, or if it is just a label applied when someone disagrees with a judges opinion. If you are capable of reasoning at all you will find it is the second.

    4. What must come next? Can you make a reasonable argument for anything at all coming next?

  • wow just wow…regarding #4…can YOU make any reasonable argument that *nothing* comes next?

  • “penultimate decision”?

Do you know what the word “penultimate” means? It means “next to last or final”. It’s not some fancy way of saying final. I can’t imagine what kind of decision a person can make after they are dead, and if you can think of one, you really should’ve elaborated on that.

  • jen: no, but neither can you.

  • I don’t think the husdband is a bad person. How many years is he supposed to let her stay on life support. Every medical doctor agrees that after being brain-dead for more then 3 months and especially a year there is no chance of ever recovering. If you are brain dead you are DEAD. 15 years of waiting is long enough I think. And as her husband he should know better then anyone if that is what she would have wanted or not.

  • wow just wow
After listening to all the testimony and facts of the case, it’s clear to me that Michael wanted Terri dead and didn’t care how she got that way. To me, that falls clearly into the “bad people” camp.

I do know what penultimate means, and that’s why I chose the word. It is often used to in reference to next to most important as well. I consider the decision we all make regarding our eternal destiny more important than how long we live on this earth, that is why I chose that phrasing.

Not all husbands are loving. That’s just my opinion regarding Michael, but one that many people now agree with.

  • I should also note that liberal leaders like Rev. Jesse Jackson, Senator Tom Harkin and Ralph Nader were all speaking out on Terri’s behalf.

  • Eject,if Terri had been “dead” for fifteen years as you absurdly maintain, there would have been no need for her unfaithful husband to have her starved and dehydrated. You can’t starve a corpse, after all. You bury them–or in Mike’s case burn them.

That is why I must rEject your rationalization of Terri’s murder. Of course, since you believe 15 years is long enough for a husband to wait to murder his wife, I also find your ability to judge the prerequisites of a “good husband”–which does not include repeated infidelity, by the way–woefully inadequate.

Finally, readers that seek the truth about “brain death” as opposed to the hype peddled by the MSM may wish to explore the links here.
