Caviezel Gets Snubbed

I don’t know why this didn’t occur to me before, but suddenly I’m outraged at the obvious slight from the academy directed at James Caviezel. I’ve noted recently that some critics are talking about how The Passion of the Christ should have been nominated for Best Picture and wasn’t but I don’t have near as much brewing bile for that matter as for who is getting the Best Actor award.
Many could claim that the Passion is a history lesson. Or, it’s not “entertaining” enough. Or, they know the outcome from the outset. All true enough so I can stomach it not receiving a nod. But Caviezel’s performance in what’s arguably the most difficult role an actor could ever undertake was stellar. That fact that he was passed by can only be attributed to politics, ever the enemy of justice. In my book, Caviezel deserves the recognition, with Jamie Foxx getting the runner-up for his amazing portrayal of Ray Charles.
