‘Under God’ Stands… For Now
The US Supreme Court has decided not to address the issue of whether or not “under God” should be allowed to remain in our pledge of alligiance. All they’ve done at this point is postpone that decision by dismissing this case. Some expect the ACLU to pursue a ban, even while they claim to champion freedom of religion.
I don’t see what the problem is. They aren’t saying “under Yahweh” or “under Allah”. “God” is general enough that the speaker can be directing his or her thoughts to the diety of their choice. It seems to me that there are many who want to remove all aspects of religion from our society. As to why these groups would want to do this… we can all speculate.
