Anti-Spam Legislation Step Closer
Just last week the house OK’d some Anti-Spam legislation, now several different versions of legislation have made it through. The President has gone on record saying he will sign it into law before the end of the year. I wonder how long it will take before I stop getting these kind of emails?
Hussein Document Leads to More Arrests
With the capture of Saddam came intelligence that has already lead to the capture of three former Iraqi generals. The snowball effect should help the coalition squash the remaining terrorist groups operating in that country. Great news because the sooner we can stabilize the region and turn it over to the Iraqis for self-government, the sooner we can bring our troops home.
Tech Products of the Year
I’m a big fan of Top 10 lists, Best of This or That categories, etc. Here is Coursey’s article on best business products of the year. If anyone is up to the task, David is since he gets to review all the latest, greatest cool tech stuff. All-in-all, I’d have to say it was a sparse year, but a good thing about technology is that it changes very quickly… and generally for the better.
The Weather Outside Is Frightful
Actually, it’s not. How do I know this? Not because I went outside because I’m a computerholic, but because I found WeatherPixie. No, I don’t have a goatee, but I kinda look like this weatherman. [via Brother Blue]
Cows Are Marketing Genius
I like the Chick-Fil-A cows more each time I see them. But not as much as I like those juicy Chick-Fil-A sandwiches. Cow Superheros, United they stand, Divided they’re steak. The cow-theme hasn’t hurt Gateway either.
Old-Fashioned Christmas
It’s time to get into the holiday spirit. I know, it’s tough when you’re suffering from the flu like me, but maybe Bill’s Antique Christmas Lights Site will bring back a few glowing *wink* memories from your childhood. My favorites are the bubble lights, originally done by Noma. I need to get me some of those.
Search Engines Swapping Parts
It’s still surprising that so many search engines are still around. But results are what matter, and as it turns out, many of them get their results from the same place. That’s right, Google is still the king. Cool presentation, as well.
Kung Fu Fighting
74-year-old store manager, John Otieno-Magero, gave a 31-year-old intruder a beating he won’t soon forget. It’s bad enough to go to jail, but when the other convicts find out how it happened, I’m sure Mr. Smith won’t have much of a reputation to defend.
Spam Bill Now Law
Just a week after the bill made it through Congress, the President has signed it like he said he would. But critics are quick to say it won’t do much good. From my non-expert perspective it sounds great. Yahoo!, AOL and Microsoft agree with me. Who doesn’t like it? “…the very federal and state agencies it would charge with prosecuting the most egregious spammers.” Go figure.
$100k/Year to Videogame All-Stars
Some people think America kids have an undiagnosed case of videogameitis, but it’s nothing compared to what’s brewing in Korea’s petre dish. To say videogames in Korea is huge, is belittling the word “huge.
Color Me This, Batman
ColorMatch Remix is simply the best online color selecting tool I’ve found. This coming little more than a month after I posted about Color Scheme. Both of which are better than ColorMaker. Confused? Don’t be, as long as you are even considering which colors work well together, you are miles ahead of most site developers.
Shark Attack Doesn’t Triumph
“Bethany is 13 years old from Princeville, Kauai and was attacked by a shark…” How’s that for an opening line? She lost her left arm but miraculously survived to inspire others by continuing to surf, snowboard and stay upbeat. Gotta admire her spirit.
Demotivators: 2004 Calendars
These calendars are funny in a sad, pathetic kind of way, but worthy of some chuckles nonetheless. [via IdeaJoy]
What’s Christmas All About Anyway?
Since when has celebrating Christmas offended someone? Just lately, as a matter of fact. For centuries Christmas has been celebrated by people who’s faith in Jesus naturally led them to celebrate his birthday. But nowadays, mall employees are being told not to say “Merry Christmas” but use “Happy Holidays” instead. Wouldn’t want to offend anyone, you know.
It might surprise some people to learn that the ACLU is the chief proponent of removing Christianity from all public life. They’ve sued churches to remove nativity scenes, threatened a Colorado school system against singing any Christmas songs that contain religious references, and many more similar strategies. It ultimately amounts to censorship, a term that most agree is not what America is about. The good news is that another acronym—Alliance Defense Fund (ADF)—is fighting the ACLU in courts across America. If more people knew what the ACLU was really about maybe people of faith could celebrate their religious holidays without fear of a pending lawsuit.
Geek Shopping Gets Easier
Came across both these sites recently—Gadetopia and Gizmodo. (Guess Gadget-O-Rama was taken.) You can never have too many gadgets, or better yet, enough resources to determine which gadgets are worthwhile and which are pure junk. Don’t buy your lovable geek clothes this Christmas, go tech instead. He’ll thank you with a hand-crafted C++ utility.
