Christmas Landscapes

Ansel Adams printPerhaps no one does winter like Ansel Adams. His black-and-white modus operandi accentuates the cool, crispness of snow scenes. The may not be ideal for year-round use (unless you live in Antartica, and then, you’re probably sick of white) but his work is perfect for the holiday/winter season. [via life in the present]

Person of the Year

Making the right choice, Time magazine named the American soldier their Person of the Year. Their dedication and bravery make this award well deserved. I too want to express my thankfulness to our armed forces all over the world.

You in Middle Earth

Ever wanted to travel to Middle Earth? First, you’d need a name. Don’t fret young lad, the Barrow Downs can help you with The Middle-earth Name Generator. I’m partial to my Dwarven name, Vr??r Redhand. When it’s time to re-order, I think I’ll put that on my bank checks. [via Presurfer]

Truth or Fiction: De Vinci’s Work

The Da Vinci CodeSurely Newsweek took a cue from Brown’s Bestseller—The Da Vinci Code—being on the New York Times bestseller list when they wrote this piece looking at issues surrounding the life of Christ. Interesting points on one of the most famous paintings of all time.

Common Christmas Myths

Shrode debunks three Christmas myths over on Thinklings.org. Funny how certain statements become tradition and thereby verified, but clearly the Bible doesn’t back them up. Now, if they’d just clear up that whole “swaddling clothes” debacle, we’d be all set.

She’s a Jolly Old Elf

Luella May is a 90-year-old Santa’s helper and she’s been doing it for years. Sewing stuffed animals, stockings, quilts, whatever, it doesn’t matter because she does it to bless the needy children in her city. It may be tough to see who benefits more, the little boy who gets an unexpected present or the generous giver of the gift.

Shoppers Flocking to Net

More and more Americans are doing (at least a portion of) their holiday shopping online. InternetRetailer reports that online shopping is up 25% over last year. Others report traffic increases up to 178%! I know I love to shop in my jammies, but maybe that’s because I’m lazy. Amazon has a local truck dedicated to delivering just my packages. ;^) [via MarketingWonk]

Christmas Diversions

It seems the quality of Christmas online gizmos has gone downhill. Here’s a silly snowglobe and a (kinda?) fun Santa delivery game. This Christmas tree challenge might nearly be impossible. You’ve also got a mah-jong-type game, which I’ve never liked. This one has lots to do, but nothing rocked like last year’s tour de force—Snowrush.

For a Better Life

I’m consistently amazed at what exists out on the Net, both good and bad. Today I came across The Foundation For a Better Life website. Well-done and relevant. I applaud a fellow positive news broadcaster!

Night Owl or Morning Person?

Researchers claim they have identified the part of us that determines whether we are early risers or prefer the late night hours. It’s a gene called Period 3. Couldn’t they come up with a better name? How about the Hourglass gene? Or the Sundial gene? Probably wouldn’t fit into the schema I guess. [via Presurfer]

The Future Is Now

This is so incredible I thought it a joke. But it would have to be the most expensive prank ever conceived, so apparently the NS-5 is something you can actually buy. Wonder if they have a 30-day in-home trial?

iPod Campaign

Apple does certain things very well. Creative design is one of those things. And finally some analysts are acknowledging that their marketing campaigns show the same strategic thinking combined presented with Apple’s typical creative flair. He’s a BBC story highlighting the iPod television campaign. It’s got to be working since the iPod is still selling quite well despite it’s much higher price point.

Persistence Rewards Dedicated Football Player

Erik Bickerstaff hasn’t given up. Something many thought he should do some time ago. But he didn’t and now he’s playing football for the Dallas Cowboys. With the ‘Boys looking to upgrade over Troy Hambrick, Bickerstaff has a legitimate shot to impress in these next few games. Even though I hate the Cowboys, I’ll be pulling for this young man. You Are the Artist

Choosing to Look UpAlways fun to come across a crazy site that let’s you play. That’s one of the best things about the Internet is that you are involved. Far more than the one-way communication of TV. With Mr. Picassohead, you are the artist! It’s free! It’s fun! It’s quite bizarre! I call my masterpiece, “Choosing to Look Up” [via Presurfer]
