Football Dad Leads by Example
Priest Holmes, a leading contender for this year’s NFL MVP, has a father worthy of admiration. Instead of taking it easy in his later years, he’s volunteered for a 12-month stint in Iraq. To put it in football terms, “I need to be with my teammates just like you need to be with yours.” Awesome.
Television Exodus
There seems to be something of an exodus from TV to videogames, according to this c|net article. With the condition of TV these days, that’s a positive move. Hopefully, the games aren’t worse influences. Again, it comes to making healthy decisions. [via Tech-Knowlogy]
I Got Your Back
The first thing a homeward bound military person will tell you, “There needs to be more of the positive news taking place in Iraq being reported back here in the States.” Perhaps USAToday is listening by posting a link to an Army Times story—Sniper’s skills keep buddies alive— from their frontpage.
Volunteers Make a Difference
It’s an ironic, but universal truth that giving of yourself benefits the giver more than the one that receives. Volunteerism is up in the U.S. and I see that as a very good thing. Groups like Faith in Action show how the personal freedom that America affords will accomplish far more than any centralized, government-run institution. Hopefully, voters/representatives will believe this axiom for areas like school choice and healthcare.
Revived Interest in Mars
With a bevy of ships heading towards Mars this month, scientists are hoping we can answer some begging questions about the red planet. Landing a ship on the planet has a near impossible chance of success, but many are optimistic.
Merry Christmas!
Christmas is not about presents. It’s not about lights or parties or even family. Linus knows what it is about. Take heart in the real reason for Christmas, for He “came to seek and to save what was lost.” That’s me, that’s you, that’s all of us. Merry “Uplifting” Christmas to all my readers!
Onion: Drink Responsibly
Some of the stuff on The Onion cross the line between humor and good taste so it’s your call, but some of this stuff is so funny. Here is their guidelines for Drinking Responsibly During the Holidays. Now you’ve been warned.
The Church: Refuge or Love Brigade
When Craig Gross drove his “porn mobile” as a visitor to the Mosaic Church, the reception his family received wasn’t loving. The collective church is far from perfect, but identifying our shortcomings is the first mile on the road to being truly useful.
Home Audio Goes Wireless
In the never-ending list of new acronyms to learn, DAR, which stands for Digital Audio Receivers, is actually quite hip. Basically, you can wireless send music from your computer to other components throughout your home. It’s relatively new and prices, as expected, are dropping. Here’s what Coursey has to say on this leading-edge technology.
Quake Shakes California
6.5 earthquake hits San Simeon, CA as people from San Francisco to Los Angeles feel it’s effects. The good news is that it wasn’t “the big one.”
Frontline Christmas
Ken Godwin is a Army Captain currently stationed in Afghanistan. He’s also a chaplain, working to keep up the morale of our troops on the frontlline. From Monday Night Football to matters of faith, keeping spirits high during this holiday season is a priority and one that he takes seriously. [via Thunderstruck]
OurType is Cool Type
There are a buh-zillion font sites on the Web, but very few have the slick, easy-to-use interface of OurType.com. Go ahead, give it a whirl. [via Coudal]
Christmas Music Comes Streaming In
Don’t know how many of you are familiar with Shoutcast, but it’s got to be one of the coolest sites of all-time. Anyway, with the holidays upon us, I need my Christmas music to make the season. No problem, because Shoutcast’s #1 channel is Festivus Christmas. Like Justin says, “I’m lovin’ it.”
Launching Santa
I really shouldn’t post this. Not because it isn’t fun, because it really is, but because I don’t like seeing Santa being hurled out of a racing catapult to bounce and skid across the ice towards some immaterial distance merely for personal amusement… I got 350.4, beat that! *grin* [via Presurfer]
Pictures Demolish Words in Communication War
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. The Smithsonian Institution has done an incredible job displaying varied content in an easy-to-use and attactive presentation called, America On the Move. High marks for the SI.
